Homework Week 8/28-9/1

Homework will begin starting next week.  Homework folders will go home every Monday with the homework for the week in them.  Homework is due back Friday morning.  We ask that the children return their homework folders back to school every day.

Keep reading at least 20+ minutes a day.

Paint Shirts

Hey parents!

We will be doing an art project this Thursday and while we will be using washable paints I would like each student to bring an old large shirt from a sibling or parent that can be used to paint with this year. They will leave them at school and they will put them on over uniforms so they don’t get wet or paint on them. Please send a shirt with your child anytime between now and Thursday. However, If they don’t bring one in time they will be able to paint without one.

Thanks!

STEM Lab and Parking Lot Volunteers Needed

ooh-ooh-pick-me
Beginning September 7, our class will be participating in the STEM Computer Lab with Mrs. Jones where many of our technology learning standards are taught.  Our class is scheduled to go there every Thursday from 9:30-10:30.  Parent help is very much appreciated, especially with these little ones who are just learning how to log into the computers and often need lots of help.
We are also looking for parent volunteers that would be willing to help in the back parking lot (carpool lanes) on Wednesdays from 3:00-3:30pm.

If you are available on Thursdays for the STEM lab OR Wednesdays for parking lot and are willing to volunteer, please email us:

Friday News

out earlyThis is just a reminder that this Friday is a short day and $1.00 dress down day. The elementary will begin at 8:30am and end at 1:30pm. Below are the guidelines for dress down Fridays:

On dress down days, students are still expected to dress in a manner that positively impacts the learning environment. Clothing must be modest, tasteful, and it must not compromise safety standards for our students. The following standards include:

  • Shorts and skirts need to be consistent with QA Uniform Policy
  • No tank tops
  • No baggy pants
  • No bare or stocking feet
  • No open toe or heeled shoes
  • No clothing which displays obscene, vulgar, lewd, or sexually explicit words, messages or pictures
  • No clothing that exposes bare midriffs, buttocks or undergarments
  • No clothing assumed as gang related
  • If questions arise, the school administration, as the Board of Directors’ designee, has the authority to determine if a student’s dress is in keeping with this policy.

Moon Journal

Screen Shot 2015-10-08 at 9.50.12 AM
Your child will be given a “Moon Journal” tomorrow (August 23rd) to keep in their green folders from new moon to new moon (Aug. 21-Sep. 19). They will be able to observe the moon either during recess or at home and draw an accurate picture of the shape of the moon they saw that day.  This should give the kids a chance to see the moon as it goes through all of its phases (full, three quarter, half, crescent, and new). We will also be talking about these during science this week.

Undoubtedly there will be some cloudy days that prevent them from seeing the moon, so they can either draw clouds or visit the following website which displays the phase of the moon according to your location/time zone:
http://www.moonpage.com/index.html
Here’s another great link to see when the moon is rising, setting, and which phase it is in:  Moonrise, moonset, and moon phases

Thanks for your help and encouragement!  I’ll collect their Moon Journal paper on Sept. 29th. I gave you a few extra days to hopefully get in a full month.
Happy Moon Watching!

Headphones!

HeadphonesWe will begin practicing using computers this week.  If your child has not brought headphones to school yet we encourage you to send them as soon as possible. We use our headphones EVERY SINGLE DAY, often all at the same time, and we do not allow students to borrow other students’ headphones because of liability in case they are broken, etc.

Thank you very much! :)
