Headphones

We will begin using computers this week.  If your child has not brought headphones to school yet we encourage you to send them as soon as possible. We use our headphones EVERY SINGLE DAY, often all at the same time, and we do not allow students to borrow other students’ headphones because of liability in case they are broken, etc.

Thank you very much! :)

lunch boxLUNCH
For those students bringing home lunch; Please spend some time this weekend helping your student practice independent lunch preparation.  For example;
How to open containers and packages (i.e. opening pudding cups, putting straws in juice boxes, etc.)
How to properly and safely use a microwave (i.e. paper towel under food, how long to cook it, how to remove the hot food, what NOT to put in a microwave, etc.)
How to prepare microwaveable meals. A common problem that occurs is children neglect to add water to microwaveable meals, like easy mac.  This results in burnt lunch, a stinky school, and a very sad child.
What to keep and what to throw away (i.e. keep tupperware, please throw away opened juice box even if not finished, etc.)

**Please remind your student, that for health reasons, students are NOT to share their food or take food from other students.  Thank you.

Home lunch students are welcome to purchase milk or chocolate milk.  Click here to add money to your child’s lunch account for purchasing school lunch or just milk:Quest Academy Lunch Payments

Click above for the link to pictures of our silent signals that we use in class. If you can practice these with your child as well as the classroom rules (See Class Disclosure) so they don’t forget that would be great! Also ask your child about the following rules:

1. What happens when Mrs. Nelson & Mrs. Hill sing “S.L.A.N.T.”?
2. What happens after Mrs. Nelson & Mrs. Hill say “Hands and Eyes?”
3. Show me how you lock your arms and walk in the hallway?
4. What do they listen for when closing their glue and markers?

It was a GREAT first week! It is going to be hard for the next couple of weeks as they transition into full days. Talk to your child about eating ALL their lunch so they aren’t hungry and we will do plenty of brain breaks to keep them going.
PLEASE HAVE YOUR STUDENT BRING THEIR BLUE FOLDERS BACK TO SCHOOL EVERY DAY  (once they start to come home)! They will include the login information to Class Dojo to monitor your child’s behavior throughout the day.

Reminders:
*  Don’t forget to sign up for our class blog
*  Sign the Hogle Zoo Permission Slip Form
* Watch for the Volunteer Opportunities Form and Sign up.

Reminders

happyWe were SO excited to see so many of you at back to school night. There are a couple of things that we forgot to mention that we wanted to make sure you are aware.

The first day of school, you are more than welcome to walk your child to the playground out back and remain with them until we come and pick them up.  We encourage this spot to say your goodbyes for the morning and give your well wishes for the day as per school policy.  We will then bring them into our class to begin our very busy week.  We appreciate your help and support with this policy.

1. PLEASE decide on a meeting spot outside for you to meet your child after school. Make sure they stay in that spot until you come and find them. The first two weeks we will walk them out and stay with them however, after that we have HOV parking lot responsibilities in the back and won’t be able to stay with them. It gets busy at the end of the day and we want to make sure everyone is safe. We will typically meet on the 3rd set of windows.

2. Subscribing to the blog We can’t stress enough. This is our MAIN source of communication and when we update the blog you will receive an email of any and all updates.

3. Please sign the yearly permission slip CLICK HERE This gives your child permission to participate in all the activities and learning experiences this year. We welcome any and all volunteer chaperones to these events.  We also can’t stress enough the importance of paying the office the donations for the field trip and parties. We rely on these donations in order for those activities to take place. It is $15 for the year for our field trips and $12 for our class parties. That amount will take care of ALL the activities for the year.

4. If you paid the office $40 for the school supplies don’t forget you still need to purchase a backpack, water bottle, and a set of headphones. We will take care of the rest!

See you all on tomorrow!
Love,
Mrs. Nelson & Mrs. Hill

welcome(19)
We are very excited to welcome our new students into our first grade class!  We enjoyed getting to know each other and know we will have an amazing year!

In preparation for the upcoming school year, please subscribe to our blog by clicking on “Subscribe to our Blog” (found on the right sidebar).   In addition, under the “Parent Information” heading you will find our Class Disclosure and our 2016-2017 Supply list.

As a quick introduction to our class, Mrs. Nelson teaches in the morning and primarily focuses on Language Arts and Mrs. Hill concentrates on Math in the afternoon, but these core concepts are emphasized throughout the day because proficiency in number sense and becoming a good reader is at the heart of these early years.  We work closely together to ensure success and continuity in your child’s learning and in the classroom environment.

Please continue to read to your child and have them read to you during the summer!  The more he/she reads, the better prepared they will be for the upcoming school year :)

We look forward to meeting with you at Back to School Night in the fall!  Have a wonderful summer break!

Look out 2nd grade-Here they come!!

First off, let me begin by saying it has been an absolutely wonderful school year!  Your students have melted my heart and I truly love and care for each one.  Each student is amazing and I have been so very blessed to have been chosen as their teacher! I will miss their smiles, hugs, letters, pictures, and personalities!

I wish the best for each of them.  Thank you for supporting your students and myself during this school year.  I hope that I have made a lasting impression on them and have instilled in them a love of learning.  I would be tickled pink if my cute students saw me out and about and ran to give me a hug or high five!

Have a wonderful summer!  Don’t forget to read and keep up on all that you have learned, you are going to be tremendous, big 2nd graders!  I am so proud of all that you have accomplished!
