Family Pictures Due Tomorrow

HeredityDear Parents,

In the next science unit,  your child will be exploring with Mrs. Vella the similarities and differences in characteristics when comparing offspring to parents and siblings to siblings.  This is especially fun for the students if they can bring in pictures of themselves and their families.  If you are able to, please send in a family photo, or a one page collage of the members of your family this Monday, April 22nd for those who haven’t brought them in.

If your children are adopted or in a blended family, your pictures are most welcome!  Mrs. Teichert’s children are adopted and she brings in their pictures to show that even though we don’t share the same genetic traits, we share the same traits that make us humans.  Even biological families often don’t look like each other and it gives us lots of examples to talk about.

One more day to help raise money for clean water

Did you know that 6,000 children die every day from the diseases that are found in dirty water? It seems hard for us to believe that anyone would think of filling their container with dirty water, but sometimes there is no choice. Our bodies must have water to survive.

The coins you bring will make a difference, because every $5 will give a child water for life.

Thank you for remembering your quarters today. We are looking forward to our $1 (or more) dress down tomorrow!

WHOlives water challenge continues

Did you know that girls in Africa often walk 3-4 miles every day to fetch water? It is one of their family chores. Fetching water can take all day, so many girls are not allowed to attend school. We can help more girls attend school through our donations this week.

Thank you for remembering your dimes today. If you forgot, just bring them tomorrow with your quarters!

Quest students are working together to help children in Africa have clean water.

The children in the picture are eating mashed cassava, a starchy, inexpensive root vegetable that is a good source of nutrients. Because it is very stiff, it is used like a spoon to scope up the greens (similar to spinach) served with the meal.

Who Lives Pennies & Nickels and Dress Down Picture Day

Dress Down Day for Spring Personal Pictures Tomorrow and bring your pennies and nickels for our Service Learning Opportunity:

Today we attended a fun assembly by WHOlives. Their mission is to bring water, health and opportunity to children in developing countries that are at great risk, due to scarce and contaminated water.

We discussed the world water crisis and were invited to participate in the Change for Water Challenge. The Challenge invites students to bring in coins throughout the week to help create a well in Africa.  Students are encouraged to do chores at home or for friends and neighbors to earn the coins to bring to school each day.

Help us donate the coin of the day:
Tuesday= Pennies and Nickels
Wednesday= Dimes
Thursday= Quarters
Friday= Dollars (Dollar dress down day)
