MATH
We tested on rounding last week and we will continue to review on rounding.  This week we will focus on adding with three-digits.  The letter that is attached below explains what we are doing.  There are activities outlined that you can do with your student for extra practice.  These activities are not required but will give your child extra math practice at home.  These activities are not considered homework.
Lesson 2 Lesson 2.1

Reading:
This week we start our Wonders reading program. Our stories are “The Dream Catcher” and “Yoon and the Jade Bracelet”. We are continuing our focus on using Visualization as a comprehension strategy. By using this strategy, we should be able to create our own image of what is happening in a story. We will also be learning about the characters, setting and plot within a story.

Phonics:
/e/  : egg, elephant
ou   : out, proud

Vocabulary:
 celebrate  – courage    –  disappointment    – precious

 pride   –    remind –  symbol –  tradition

In class, we learn about these vocabulary words in connection to ourselves. If you notice your child using any of these words in context, this would be a great opportunity to celebrate their efforts!

SEPTEMBER POEMS
Each month students are required to memorize at least one poem.  Below is the months poems.  We only read through these in class once, so they need to be practiced at home.  Students can pass off poems on Fridays whenever they are ready to recite them.

HOMEWORK
This week for homework I will send home the reading log, or you can download it here.  There are four sections, one for each week.  Cut out the section for the week and send it back to school with your child on Friday.
As for the math homework, we did not get a chance to get onto Reflex so there will not be math homework this week.  We will practice getting onto Reflex this week and then math homework will start next week.
