Food Label Assignment

Compare two different food labels-

1. Cut out food labels from two different types of food and attach them to a piece of paper.

2. Label them on the paper (Diagram fashion- see power point below for a refresher) and then compare the foods in a one-paragraph write up on the back. Which food is healthier? Why? Which one would be the better choice for you personally? Why? Etc.

Literature Circle Discussion 2 (Wednesday 9/3) Make-up work.

If you missed literature circle discussion 2 this is what you must do in order to make-up for the points missed:

1-Finish the role that you had for that day. (This should already be done.)

2-Write a 2 page (1 page front and back hand-written, or 1 page typed) essay responding to this prompt:

       In Chapter 6 Karim’s father is humiliated at a checkpoint by an Israeli soldier. First, describe how he was humiliated, and then discuss how this event impacts Karim. Finally, discuss how something like this would impact you.

3- Staple your role for discussion 2 to the back of your essay and turn in.

Little Piece of Ground-Vocab 1

  1. Reproachfully- Disapproving. Expressing disapproval or blame.
  1. Massacre- The vicious killing of large numbers of people or animals.
  1. Outmaneuver- Outsmart, outfox; to get the better of.
  1. Refugee– Somebody who seeks or takes refuge in a foreign country, especially to avoid war or persecution.
  1. Surreptitious- Trying to avoid being noticed. Done in a concealed or underhand way to escape notice, especially disapproval.
  1. Tangible- Able to be touched. Actual; capable of being given a physical existence.
  1. Indelibly- Impossible to remove or alter, rub out or wash out. Unforgettable; impossible to remove from the mind or memory
  1. Incredulously– Unwilling to believe. Showing disbelief.

 9. Aghast- Horrified. Overcome with shock and dismay.

– Without any reduction in intensity or strength.

Body Systems Unit Vocabulary

 

  1. Immunization- vaccines given to prevent certain diseases
  2. Interdependence- a state in which there are mutual, shared or reciprocal needs.
  3. Lymphocytes- a type of white blood cell.
  4. Macrophage- a type of white blood cell.
  5. Metabolism- a chemical process in the body constantly taking place that uses and releases energy.
  6. Chromosomes- 46 thread-like structures that contain genes and DNA.
  7. Neuron- a nerve cell.
