My name is Kerri Shelton and this is my fifth year of teaching fifth grade at Quest Academy. Before arriving at Quest, I was a WSU student (despite the fact that I am a diehard U of U fan) pursuing my elementary education degree. I’ve been in the field of education for about nine years, working as an aide for both Weber and Ogden School Districts. I’ve worked primarily with ESL students while finishing my degree and being a full time mother of two. I absolutely LOVE teaching and cannot imagine a more enjoyable career. I enjoy gardening, spending time with friends/family, and occasionally being a little silly.
I am an only child who was raised by my grandparents in Price UT. As I mentioned, I have two children, Emily is 18 years old and is a senior at Roy High School and Cole is 16 years old and will be a sophomore. I currently live in Roy and I have been married for 21 years to Lynn Shelton. In addition, we have two very spoiled large dogs (a Weimaraner and a Dalmatian).
My teaching philosophy is simple; I want every child to feel comfortable and confident, not only in my classroom, but also in every classroom and future situation they may find themselves. Throughout my educational career, my focus has been on diversity and I would like to continue to make that an emphasis in my classroom. I believe that children have as much to learn from each other, as they do from me. I plan on using diversity to illustrate this life lesson in my classroom. I will encourage every child to see how he/she may be unique and special, and help him/her to recognize that everyone’s contributions are amazing and valuable, no matter how different or unfamiliar they may seem.
My goal is to instill confidence in every child I teach and help him/her to realize their individual potential in whatever they want. More simply stated, I want my students to recognize that I care about them, their culture, their beliefs, their learning and more importantly, their future. Ultimately, I want to teach them to care about each other.
