Announcements

Poetry
**Update** Everyone has passed off at least one poem! Way to go!!!
This month I am asking students to memorize at least one of the attached poems to be performed in front of the class before April 1st. This is a great opportunity to work on our fluency, phrasing, and performing skills. We will be doing a class musical in May and this will serve as an audition of sorts. Students are welcome to memorize and perform as many poems as they would like. I will be paying class money for each successfully performed. I will be sending home a hard copy with each student. Each student will need to get onto www.reflexmath.com (access under student links on the Quest website, or on the blogs sidebar under Homework Links) and complete their “green light” (the middle has to be green) Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday (3 sessions). Students have practiced logging in the last week but, just in case they don’t remember, the class username is “shark″ and all passwords are “rams”.  If students do not complete Reflex at home they will complete it during recess time.

Announcements

• It’s that time of year again! Parent Teacher Conferences will be held on January 29th and 31st from 3:00-7:30. I will be using Bloomz for conference sign ups. Please log on and select a time that works for you and your family. Remember spots fill up fast, so make sure you sign up now to get the spot you want! I look forward to seeing you at our conference. In order to stay on schedule, I will be setting a timer for each conference. 
• Superbowl Inference Party
• We will be watching Superbowl commercials and using inference to tell what the companies are trying to sell.
• The permission slip at the beginning of the year covered the permissions to have orange soda, nacho Doritos, and Twinkies.
• if you have any objections, please let me know ASAP

Valentine’s Day Party

We will be having a Valentine’s Day Party on Thursday, February 14th from 1:30-3:00.  Any parents willing to volunteer and run a center during the party, please let me know.

Also, please send 25 Valentine cards with each of your students on Valentine’s Day to pass out. (Students can also bring their own Valentine mailbox or bag, we will not be making them at school.) Another reminder, please do not attach candy or food to the Valentine Cards, but you can be creative and do pencils, erasers, etc.

Multiplication Madness

We are hitting multiplication facts really hard in math right now.  Starting Monday, February 4th,  Multiplication Madness will begin!  Please start drilling and multiplying the multiplication facts with them at.  I have changed Reflex from addition & subtraction to multiplication & division.  This will helps students become quick at knowing their facts, however, they will still need additional practice at home.   The students have to pass off their 0′s to 10′s for a required grade. Every student will be given 10 problems to pass off in one minute. Multiplication facts are a huge part of the third grade math core curriculum. The students will have to spend time at home working on these facts in order to pass them off in the time table we have set.  The students will have the opportunity to pass off their multiplication facts as many times as they can before the celebration.  We will focus on one fact a week and I will post our schedule on the blog so you know which fact we are on for the week.   Our Multiplication Madness Banana Split Celebration will take place on Thursday, March 28th from 2:00-3:00.  

Each part of the Banana Split is one of the multiplication facts that needs to be passed off.  You will get that part of the Banana Split ONLY if you pass off that actual fact.
0′s – Placemat
1′s- Napkin
2′s – Bowl
3′s – Spoon
4′s – Banana
5′s – Scoop of Strawberry Ice Cream
6′s – Scoop of Chocolate Ice Cream
7′s – Sprinkles
8′s – Strawberry topping
