We will be doing our end of the year Dibels assessment on May 2nd and May 3rd from 8:30-10:15.
Please make sure your child has had a good nights rest and has eaten breakfast.
Reading aloud to a parent or sibling each would be a great way to prepare for this! We have been working so hard on this all year, let’s make one final push!
Practices for the play are in full swing! Please make sure your child is here so we can practice with the whole cast each day!
Poetry New Poems for April. This has been so fun! This month I am asking students to memorize at least one of the attached poems to be performed in front of the class before May 1st. This is a great opportunity to work on our fluency, phrasing, and performing skills. Students are welcome to memorize and perform as many poems as they would like. I will be paying class money for each successfully performed. I will be sending home a hard copy with each student. Feel free to click on the link April Poems or the picture to view online.

135 spoons 135 bowls- 135 napkins.
I will put a sign up on Bloomz so you can let me know if you would like to help with volunteering and/or donating on this day. Any parents that can come to help, please bring an ice cream scooper. Thanks so much for all your support with all our extra shenanigans in third grade! You’re all the best!
We are hitting multiplication facts really hard in math right now. Starting Monday, February 4th, Multiplication Madness will begin! Please start drilling and multiplying the multiplication facts with them at. I have changed Reflex from addition & subtraction to multiplication & division. This will helps students become quick at knowing their facts, however, they will still need additional practice at home. The students have to pass off their 0′s to 10′s for a required grade. Every student will be given 10 problems to pass off in one minute. Multiplication facts are a huge part of the third grade math core curriculum. The students will have to spend time at home working on these facts in order to pass them off in the time table we have set. The students will have the opportunity to pass off their multiplication facts as many times as they can before the celebration. We will focus on one fact a week and I will post our schedule on the blog so you know which fact we are on for the week. Our Multiplication Madness Banana Split Celebration will take place on Thursday, March 28th from 2:00-3:00.
Each part of the Banana Split is one of the multiplication facts that needs to be passed off. You will get that part of the Banana Split ONLY if you pass off that actual fact. 0′s – Placemat 1′s- Napkin 2′s – Bowl 3′s – Spoon 4′s – Banana 5′s – Scoop of Strawberry Ice Cream 6′s – Scoop of Chocolate Ice Cream 7′s – Sprinkles 8′s – Strawberry topping 9′s – Scoop of Vanilla Ice Cream 10′s – Chocolate Fudge topping 11′s – Whipped Cream 12′s – Cherry on Top!!!
**We will be passing out Valentine’s Day cards on February 14th (before the Multiplication Madness Celebration). We have 24 students in our class. I prefer for the students not address the student’s names on the Valentine Cards. It takes double the time to pass them out if they are addressed to each individual student in our class. Please have your child just sign each of their cards. Remember not to send candy with your cards. You can bring anything else that is not edible. WE WILL NOT BE MAKING VALENTINE’S DAY BOXES OR BAGS TO HOLD CARDS. STUDENTS ARE WELCOME TO BRING BOXES OR BAGS FROM HOME. I WILL HAVE PAPER SACKS TO GIVE THE STUDENTS THAT NEED SOMETHING.**

Prodigy is offering POQA the opportunity for any parents who are interested in upgrading their student’s free account to the paid version an annual rate of $12 per student account. The normal rate is approximately $9 per month or $60 per year so this is a significant (80%) discount! In order to receive this rate, a minimum of 30 parents must be willing to purchase the upgrade at the discounted rate. ($12 for 12 months!) If you are interested in participating in this optional parent discount program, here is what you need to do:
Have a parent account on https://www.prodigygame.com/ (This is free and simple to create. Go to this website and create a “Parent Account” under the “Get your free account” link.)
Link your student’s account to your personal parent account. If they use it in class, they have an existing account that can be linked to both their teacher and parent’s accounts. (They will need their login and password from school for you to link them.)
Fill out the enrollment form below and return it to the office with $12 (preferably cash to make the process as simple as possible or check made out to POQA).
Submit the form and money to the office by Wednesday, March 23rd.(In order to have the upgrade ready for Spring Break Math practice!)
Existing upgraded members: This discounted annual membership would go into effect at the end of your current paid membership expiration.
We are doing a math lesson tomorrow on picture graphs and pictographs with graham crackers tomorrow. Please let me know if your child can not eat them after the lesson. Thanks!
I hope you all had a wonderful break and holiday! I am excited to start our new adventures in 2016! I really missed my class and I am excited to get back! This week will be very busy as we are almost half way through the school year. Can you believe it!? We will be working on text dependent writing from non-fiction text, finishing up main idea, and learning about fables. We also will be working HARD to get our multiplication facts down. We will be finishing up 6′s, 7′s, and 8′s this week so please have your child work on them at home as well. Our multiplication madness party is February 14th, which is coming up fast. We set a goal at the beginning to have everyone pass off their 0-10s. We would love any help we can get to reach that goal! Thank you for support!
