It is an exciting time in our classroom!  The wedding of Q and U is scheduled to take place on March 7th. This is a very fun day in our classroom that is planned to help the children remember the sound q, and to reinforce that q and u are always written together. 

We are planning a dress-up day for the children on this day.  The children are welcome to come dressed as queens and kings or in their best dress.  There is no need to go out and buy anything new for this occasion, a simple king or queen costume or fancy dress clothes are sufficient. 

We are also asking the children to bring a gift for the new couple (Q and U).  Please find any item or picture that has the “qu” sound (ie: quarter, equator, quilt, etc.) in the word and put it in a gift bag or wrap it.  We will be opening it at school and then sending them back home after the activity.

We are so excited to start our class’s February reading competition.  This is a contest between the morning kindergarten class verses the afternoon kindergarten class.  Every day that your child brings back their baggy book they will get one point for their team. We will also pick random days that will be double points day, this is where the children will get two points instead of one point for the book they passed off.   The team that has the most points at the end of each month will win a class party.  Your child should be returning their baggy book every week at least twice a week.  Parents, we need your help to encourage your child to read every night and bring back their books every other day.  Thank you for all your help and support.  

If anyone is willing to donate some prizes for our treasure box, it would be greatly appreciated. Our prize supply is looking a little sad. Any small toy or prize works great, just no food or toy weapons. We use these prizes as rewards for homework and for working extra hard in class. Thank you so much for your continued help and support.

On February 6th, we will have attended kindergarten for 100 days.  We are planning a big “100 Day Celebration”!  I would love your help.  I will be sending home an empty Ziploc bag with a 100 days note on the outside of it.  Please fill the Ziploc bag with 100 items that are the same and write your child’s name on the outside of the bag (please have your child count the items; this activity is to help your child practice counting to 100).  These items can be anything from toothpicks to stickers (please do not send any food items).  Please return these to school before February 6th.  

Please help with my clothing drive. Bring donations to the office at Parent Teacher Conference, Jan. 29th and 31st.

This week, I started sending home a bag with a llama (AM Class) or a Panda (PM Class) along with a writing journal inside of it.  Your child will have a couple of days with the stuffed animal.  Have your child do some kind of activity with the stuffed animal while you have it.  This can be reading a book together, going to the park, going out to eat, etc.  You can take a picture, or have your child draw a picture, and glue it into the journal at the top where the page is blank.    Then you will help your child write about the activity.  Please make sure to have them write slowly so they can write on the lines correctly.  Remember to have them use spaces, capitalization, & punctuation correctly.  Please let me know if you have any questions.
