Field Trip Alert, Valentine’s Info

Last week we received notice that we have the opportunity to visit the Clarke Planetarium on February 24th.   We know that this is short notice, but we told them that we would be there.  We have plenty of room for any parents who would like to join us on this adventure.  Below is the link to the permission slip:

Dot and Dash After School Group
We will be holding our after school group for Dot and Dash starting Next Thursday,  February 18th, March 3rd, 10th, 17th, and 31st .  We will not meet on the Thursday’s we have Parent Teacher Conferences.   In order for your child to participate, you will need to sign the permission slip and return it to me.

Gala Basket
We are looking for items to go the 3rd Grade Gala Basket.  Out theme is Sports and features the college teams and the Jazz.  We are looking for donations to fill the basket.  We would appreciate anything you are able to contribute towards a great basket.

SeeSaw
If you have not subscribed to your child’s Seesaw Learning Journal, please take the time to do so.  This is a fabulous opportunity to see what your child produces, and can be accessed from any device.  If you have lost (or never received) your invitation to join, please let me know, and I’ll print you a new one.  We try and publish at 2 times a week, with one of the items a reflection of your child’s week.  Friday’s entry will be published after they edit what they wrote.  We will also be adding the snowmen they created last week (I can’t wait for you to see them).

Homework:

We have studied fractions on a number line and moving into fractions of a shape and fractions of a set.

Math homework should be at least 3 times a week at least and recorded in the homework reporting page on the blog.  Choose any of the items below to complete homework for the week.

Prodigy
Reflex Math (If they didn’t get their green light at school)
Salute
PIG
Multiplicaton War
Dot Game (Copies are available at school)
Front Row Ed

Each night of homework is worth 10 points.

Reading:
20 minutes at least 5 times this week.  It is imperative that your child is participating in reading practice at home.  Studies have shown that the more words a child reads, the better their achievement is in all other areas.   Not only are they given homework points for reading, but they are also given presentation points for being able to stand up and talk about what they read the night before. Reading is worth 100 points each week. I will be choosing our book talks from the Padlet Entries here, please have your child comment when they are ready to share the next day.  They only need to do a book talk once a month, but many of them like to do more:

Book Check In

Spelling Sorts
We will not be doing a Spelling sort this week (We have several writing passages we will be working on this week, and the spelling score for the week will be taken from these passages.  Being able to transfer what they have learned in sorts is imperitive to being successful.)

Preview of next week:
Survivor: Consumer vs. Producer  Research Project

Thank you for supporting us in all that we do!
