Clubs, Field Trip, Survivor!

Goodbye long weekend!  We will all miss you!  Hello countdown to Spring Break, which means we have 6 solid weeks to buckle in and work hard on writing, math, reading skills, STEM, social studies, and sprinkle in some art too.

We need all Field Trip Permission Slips  turned in by Wednesday.  If you are planning to join us, please have your entrance to the movie paid by Wednesday too.

If your child signed up for a Tuesday Club, you should have received an e-mail tonight concerning them starting tomorrow night, other than the Running Club, it will start early March.  There are still a few slots open in the Chimes Club.   The Club Contract may be found here:  Club Agreement

If your child will be staying for the Thursday Dot and Dash Club, please scroll down to the post before this one,  and fill out the form there.

We are starting our Survivor Game and Research project.  Your child will be choosing either a consumer or producer in class and needs to decide what they would like to be.  Please help them in this decision as they will be researching what they choose, creating a presentation about it, and then defending why they should not be voted “off the island” at Tribal Council.  We will be doing research at school and I’m sure there will be some done at home also.  The students will need to log onto the blog Wednesday and fill out the Survivor Google Form on Wednesday.  This form will go live at 3:45.  It will be a first come first serve of choosing.  The student with the earliest timestamp will get the topic.

Homework
We are still focusing on Fractions.  Please draw attention to them as you find them in your child’s life.

Math homework should be at least 3 times a week at least and recorded in the homework reporting page on the blog.  Choose any of the items below to complete homework for the week.

Prodigy
Reflex Math (If they didn’t get their green light at school)
Salute
PIG
Multiplicaton War
Dot Game (Copies are available at school)
Front Row Ed

Reading: 20 minutes at least 5 times this week.  It is imperative that your child is participating in reading practice at home.  Studies have shown that the more words a child read, the better their achievement is in all other areas.   Not only are they given homework points for reading, but they are also given presentation points for being able to stand up and talk about what they read the night before. Reading is worth 10 0points each week.  We will be using what we read in the evening as part of our Seesaw this week.

Spelling Sorts: Sorts are assigned on Monday, so this sort should be the regular sort, allowing you to see what the focus for the week is and should be written after sorting.  Tuesday and Wednesday and Thursday, you get to choose the sorts.  I have told the students that if they choose the speed sort, to save it for a “busy” night as it does not need to be written.   If you have questions, please don’t be afraid to e-mail me.  Sorts are worth 10 points per sort every week.

When we test on Friday, I choose words with the pattern we have learned throughout the week.  I do not always choose words that were in the sort as we are looking for the use of pattern and their ability to use it in any word with that pattern.

Panthers: Sort 5
H
uskies: Sort 4
J
ayhawks:  Sort 15
W
ildcats: Sort 33
