Homework for February 2 – 6th

Homework this week is due on Friday, February 6:
* LIBRARY DAY IS TUESDAY

*  There was some confusion on what is homework and required and what is additional/optional for those students who request more work, or really want to excel.   Students are required to complete their word sort daily and their high frequency words daily listed on the Weekly Homework Organizer Form.  We complete Spelling City activities in class, if the students choose not to complete it during their time given to do so during Centers time it will need  to be completed at home in order to receive the credit for it.

We have been doing the same center work since school began and students need to be completing their writing journal, math journal, sort packet, and Spelling City. Citizenship points are deducted from the overall grade when students choose to not complete their centers work.  Spelling City, Moby Max, FrontRow Ed, Coding, Vocabulary in Spelling City, one minute Timed Fluency Sheet are all optional resources available to use if not assigned as homework for that week.  I hope this clears up any confusion.

1- Math Homework:  Please have your student log into one of the following programs for their math homework this week:  Moby Max, Front Row Ed, or Xtra Math. I will be pulling the reports at the end of the week for their Math Homework scores.

2- Reading 20 minutes per day, at least two of these times a week on Raz Kids and taking the comprehension tests by clicking on the question marks after reading the books. I will be pulling the Raz Kids reports on Friday to update the reading scores.

3- Timed Fluency Practice.  This daily one-minute timed fluency reading will help your student become a fluent reader.  It will also count for reading minutes.

Dear Parents:

I wanted to post a little note to let you know to be very proud of your kiddo’s.  Even though I was not there, they listened to their substitute and did what she asked of them.  A big thanks to our substitute, Mrs. Sosi-she was wonderful!

As per the notification from the administration, there was a bomb threat and measures were quickly put into place.  As a staff, we appreciate all of your patience and cooperation during this process.  Please talk with your students and let them know everything is ok.  I will be there with big hugs and reassurance tomorrow.

No bomb was located and the student responsible will not be returning to Quest.  Please give your cute kiddo’s a big hug tonight from me and let them know I am so proud of them.

We also appreciate the quick response of the Weber County Sherriff Department, Weber County Fire Department, and the multiple K-9 units. We apologize for the lateness of this information, as we were just recently allowed back into the building to access our computers.

Merry Christmas & Happy Holidays!

I stopped by our classroom this morning and found this on my computer.  Please feel free to share with your students.  It is from our classroom Elf on a Shelf.

Oliver’s Goodbye Letter
(or I have copied the text below)

Dear Mrs. Nelson’s 1st Graders,

Thank you for letting me be a part of your class.  You have been so much fun to hang out with.  Sorry for some of the messes I made.  Sadly, this is my last day to be in your class.  When you get back to school I will be gone, but, I will have left a gift for you.

Tonight when you are asleep, a little Christmas magic is going to happen.  I will make my last report to Santa before he gets on his sleigh and heads around the world to spread Christmas cheer.  When you wake up tomorrow morning I will be gone and presents will be under your tree.  I know there will be presents because I told Santa all about what good boys and girls you are.

Merry Christmas Mrs. Nelson’s Class!  I LOVE you!  See you next year!
