First (real) week back!

Dear Parents –

It is amazing being back in the classroom with your wonderful children. They all have so many abilities and talents that they contribute to our learning. I can already tell we are going to have a fabulous year!

This week was a lot of procedure training with curriculum. How to do assignments, the programs, and beginning of year leveled tests.

Next week, I will be continuing with the curriculum training/teaching, but with their test scores the students will be making goals where they want to be or what they want to accomplish by the middle of the year. They will keep these goal sheets in their desks, but if you would like to view them (before PTC’s in October) have your kiddo bring them home. (but then right back to school)

I like to keep you updated on what we are learning during the week. Please, keep in mind, all students master and learn concepts at their own pace. They can ALWAYS master a topic LATER through out the year. Also, some students may press forward and go a little ahead. If you hear that one child is testing on a topic and it does NOT sound like where your child is, that is the reason.

I am here for you and your child. I want them to succeed as much as you do. I do my best to keep problems of bullying or inappropriate behavior under control, but if anything is brought to your attention that needs to be addressed, email, call for an appointment so we can set it right.

WE ARE LEARNING = Aug. 29 – Sept. 2

(I am SO excited for the -BER months!)

*MATH = NBT.4 – I can multiply multi-digit whole numbers using the standard algorithm.

*U1W2 = I can reread a text to determine the main problem and solution in the plot.

  • Strategy – (what we teach to help students be GOOD readers) = reread
  • Phonics – (pattern in spelling, WHAT letters make the sound they are looking for) = long vowels

We will, of course, have more curriculum and items that we are learning. But Math and ELA are the two MAJORs in Utah Curriculum. Our fifth grade team will be incorporating Social Studies, Science, and Writing during a rotation time taught by all fifth grade teachers.

Then, the students have “specials” which include, computer science (Tuesday), library (Wednesday), and STEEM (Thursday).

I hope you have a wonderful weekend and I will see everyone back in the classroom on Monday, August 29. Thank you again for all donations: money, markers, prizes, and sweet welcome back gifts for me. I already feel loved and appreciated. We are going to accomplish great growth this year. I feel it already… here we go!

xoxox,

About angie.young

Hi - My name is Mrs. Young. I am excited to start a new adventure teaching at Quest Academy. I have taught previously in Weber School District in 2, 3, 4, and 6th grades. This will be the start of my 13 year. I also taught in Ogden District, before receiving my Bachelor's of Science, in special education preschool and long term subbing for math in the Jr. High Schools. My hobbies are my family!!! AND singing and acting. I have always loved art and theater. I hope to incorporate art into the technology and science to help our young minds expand to new measures. My family has been part of the education system since I was born. I have always been taught to have a passion for learning and growing. I am very excited to help my students this year to achieve all their goals and never stop fulfilling their passions in life. Welcome to 5th GRADE!!!
