Weekly Learning Update

September 5 – Happy Labor Day – No School

September 6 -9

Dear Parents and Students –

Beginning of the year testing is done and we are jumping in to “Mastering” our standards. I want to remind everyone that “Mastery” is very difficult. Most likely it will not happen for every child on the first test. Also, reminder that each standard can be worked on in class, tutored, and practiced until it is mastered. We have ALL year to master these standards. Please, know that it will take awhile for some of them. Just keep motivating your child to do their best and to keep up on their practice in the classroom.

Math: Learning NBT.6 – Divide whole numbers with a double digit divisor. Reviewing NBT.5 – Multiplying multi-digit whole numbers using the standard algorithm.

NOT REQUIRED to do at HOME – (IXL) Kiddos can work on C.13 – C.21 for extra practice at home. If your child has not Mastered their multiplication facts yet, they can work on Reflex, OR make their own flashcards. In fifth grade we do not have a lot of practice time for this, so HOME help is highly recommended.

ELA: Informational – Cause /Effect

(Phonics sound – u, oo, ew)

Science – Students are working with the areas of matter with Mrs. Hales.

S.S. -Climate, landforms, and Natural Resources in the United States and how it affects people through out time.

Writing – Working on forming good structured sentences and words that help make compound sentences.

About angie.young

Hi - My name is Mrs. Young. I am excited to start a new adventure teaching at Quest Academy. I have taught previously in Weber School District in 2, 3, 4, and 6th grades. This will be the start of my 13 year. I also taught in Ogden District, before receiving my Bachelor's of Science, in special education preschool and long term subbing for math in the Jr. High Schools. My hobbies are my family!!! AND singing and acting. I have always loved art and theater. I hope to incorporate art into the technology and science to help our young minds expand to new measures. My family has been part of the education system since I was born. I have always been taught to have a passion for learning and growing. I am very excited to help my students this year to achieve all their goals and never stop fulfilling their passions in life. Welcome to 5th GRADE!!!
