Weekly Update 10/3 -10/7

Dear Parents – Remember that tutoring is held on Tuesdays (after school) and Thursdays (Before School). Anyone is invited to attend, as long as they behave and are ready to work. Those who choose to distract others or not work will be asked to leave.

We have been zooming through our math standards. Today students will get their electronic data tracker, hopefully, this will help them monitor their own learning and growth. With that, as well, they can keep parents up to date on how they are doing too. Each week you should be seeing at least one math paper test come home with a score on it. 80% or higher is a 3 mastery grade. To receive a 4 mastery, a student must take the iReady test or show an equivalent DOK to an iReady test. It is hard for students to earn this grade.

ELA will be 90% or above 4 mastery, 80% to 89% =3, 60% -79% =2, and 59% or below =1. The tests we give for ELA will consist of our Wonders Program, Commonlit, and iReady. The more your student reads at home with you on a daily basis, will GREATLY improve their mastery in the classroom.

Science and Writing grades will also be mastered, more information on those subjects will come shortly. Those standards are graded farther apart.

The fifth grade team is finalizing the Aspire Grade book. If a standard has NOT been taught yet, the grade will show a blank. Also, remember, students can continue to have their grades changed through out the year, NOT BASED ON QUARTERS, it will always determine when the child masters the standard. That is why the student trackers may be easier to understand than the grades in Aspire. But I will have both accessible to parents shortly.

This week we are learning:

Math – Lesson 9 – Compare / Round decimals.

Math Review- Lesson 7 – Multiplying and Dividing by the powers of 10. (Test for Lesson 7 -Friday, October 7)

ELA – Standard – Problem and Solution (structure)

This will be the start of my 13 year. I also taught in Ogden District, before receiving my Bachelor's of Science, in special education preschool and long term subbing for math in the Jr. High Schools. My hobbies are my family!!! AND singing and acting. I have always loved art and theater. I hope to incorporate art into the technology and science to help our young minds expand to new measures. My family has been part of the education system since I was born. I have always been taught to have a passion for learning and growing. I am very excited to help my students this year to achieve all their goals and never stop fulfilling their passions in life. Welcome to 5th GRADE!!!
