Dear First Graders,
Welcome to first grade! My name is Ms. Strain and I am very excited to be your teacher this year! I have been busy getting our classroom ready for all of our new friends. I can’t wait to meet you and begin a fun-filled year together.
Our first grade adventure begins on Wednesday, August 16, 2023…the first day of school! I know you are going to love first grade. Please use the link below to subscribe to our classroom blog.

Essential skills that make first grade life simpler and make things move and function quickly and organized are self-help skills; below are examples of things to work on before school starts.
- Restroom independence (Button or snapping pants handwashing etc.,)
- Putting on a jacket or coat independently
- Zipping a jacket or coat independently
- Work on tying shoes
- Open a water bottle to fill at recess
- Open small packages of food at lunch so they do not have to wait for staff.
Reading is a huge part of first grade! For the kiddos to want to read, they need to develop a love for books. Please read to your child or have them listen to the stories online, listen together and discuss the book after.
Other areas to review:
*Reviewing all upper and lowercase letters and sounds.
*Adding small amounts of 0-10 items
* Have fun making CVC words, nonsense and real words.
First grade is such a special year. I am excited to be a part of your learning! I look forward to a successful year!
Sincerely,
Ms. Strain
