  • Mission to Mars

I want to thank all of the parents who helped with the Mission to Mars. Your contribution of materials and time is greatly appreciated!!!

Mission to Mars

Thursday is our Mission to Mars event at Weber State. We may not have room on the busses for all parents, but you are welcome to come. There is a possibility that you will have to drive to meet us at Weber State. Our bus leaves at 8:45 and the event is being held at the Stewart building in the gym. I am including a video that demonstrates how students will construct their habitats for you to review. The video can also be found on qactube.org.

State Reports

Dear Parents/Guardians:

We have come to that time of year where fifth-grade students research and write a state report and design a state float. Most of the research and writing will be done at school, along with a digital portion they will be presenting in class.

The floats will need to be put together at home. The guidelines for the student floats are as follows:

State Float: Due May 7

Students are to make a miniature float (not a diorama) representing your state. Follow the steps below:

·      Use a shoebox. Your float may not be bigger than 14 x 14 inches.

·      Completely cover the outside of the box (e.g. tissue paper, foil, colored rice that is glued on, construction paper, etc.)

·      Design the top part of your float using creativity and imagination Think about what you have learned about your state’s national parks, motto, symbols, etc. Take some of these scenes, replicas, or figures that represent your state, placing them on the top in an appealing way.

·      Somewhere on the float you must have the name of your state.

·      Your state float should resemble a real float in a parade. Think about the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day or Tournament of Roses parade floats.

·      Don’t forget your name!

·      Be creative, and have fun!

Mission to Mars

Parents, we are getting close to our Mission to Mars event at Weber State on April 26th. I still need one more parent volunteer for the Mars Martian habitat group. Check with your student to find out which group they are in since you will stay with that group. Siblings may not attend. Students have to work together to create a life support system. It is based their idea and it will be their creation. They need to work together to bring the supplies they will need. As soon as we get all of the supplies, we can begin building! I have included a list of the items that students have volunteered to bring. If you cannot bring the item you were assigned, please let me know as soon as possible. Don’t forget to turn in the two permission forms that were sent home. Thanks!
