Math:
The following letter explains what we will be working on in math this week. You can read the letter and invite your child to share what they know about the concept by doing the activity together.

Social Studies:

Week 2: English Settlements
Students will explain the reasons for colonization and read about the Lost Colony of Roanoke.

Optional Homework

Although homework will remain the same, it is now optional. Because multiplication fluency is so very critical in 5th grade, I highly recommend that students who do not have 100% on Reflex continue to attain three green lights per week. Reading at least 20 minutes per night is still encouraged. There will no longer be a homework form to complete or a quarterly book report.

There’s just one more week for our Fundraiser! The top-selling grade will get a night at The Rush Funplex—families of these students will be invited as well! Also, all classes that meet their goal (each student selling an average of $100 of merchandise), will win a pizza party.

1st Week of 5th Grade

What a fabulous first week! We went over many procedures and I was able to get to know my new students a little bit. I love my class already! A few things to think about…

  • Homework for students next week will consist of reading 100 minutes and getting three green lights on Reflex unless they already have 100%. Students should already be thinking about the 200+ page chapter book they would like to read for their quarterly book report.
  • Picture day will be Thursday, August 9th. I will send the students home with the picture order form on Monday. This is the picture that will be used for name badges and the school yearbook.
  • Forms for Lego League tryouts are due by September 6th at 3:00pm.

Thank You

Parents,
Thank you for allowing me to teach your child and be a part of their life. Each student worked hard this year and achieved so much. It has been a pleasure and an honor to facilitate their learning and watch them grow. Having had the best fifth-grade class ever this year, it was sad to say goodbye to them today. I love them all and will miss them very much!
