ELA:
This week our class will be taking a look at the things people can do to bring about positive change. We will be focusing on how people can make positive changes in government and society to promote the “common good.”

Friend “Ram” Grams will be on sale Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday next week before and after school for 25 cents each. Kindergarten-4th grade Ram Grams will be sold in the Q1 building, and 5th grade-junior high Ram Grams will be sold in Q2. Ram Grams will be delivered on Thursday morning to the students’ classrooms, just in time for Valentine’s Day.

On Monday, February 25th, the 5th grade will be attending the Weber State Story Telling Festival. The festival will be held at the Perry Egyptian Theater in Ogden.  A bus will be taking us to and from the event.  Students will be attending the 9:30 and 10:30 sessions.  The buses will be leaving the school promptly at 8:45 and will be back to the school for lunch, so there is no need to pack any food.  The festival will allow students to understand how to add expression and emphasis to their reading.  Please sign the form below letting me know if your student is allowed to attend.

Our class is awesome! Because of the hard work and great behavior our class has shown, students have earned a pizza party. This will take place on Tuesday, February 12th. Please complete this permission form in order for your child to consume food items at school.

Valentine’s Day Party
On February 14th our class will be having a Valentine’s party. We will be having a Valentine Card exchange in conjunction with the party. Students are welcome to bring a decorated box or bag. We will not be making them in class. The card exchange is optional. If your student would like to participate please remember that food items are NOT allowed with the cards. Toys, pencils, erasers, etc. are allowed to accompany cards, but are not required. Any students participating will need to bring a card for each member of our class, 25 students total. This week our class will be focusing on events from the past. We will explore how historians and archeologists work to figure out how people lived hundreds of years ago.

Unit 2 Assessment

Our quarterly book report will be based on a biography. Students should choose a biography to read and complete before the end of February. They will not need to complete the chapter summary document, just read the book. We will work on the project for the book in class. There is not a required number of pages.
