Our class is awesome! Because of the hard work and great behavior our class has shown, students have earned a pizza party. This will take place on Tuesday, February 12th. Please complete this permission form in order for your child to consume food items at school.

This week marks the 1,000th day of school for fifth-graders. One of the ways we will be celebrating is with a kindness challenge. Our goal is to reach 1,000 acts of kindness by the end of the week. We encourage students to participate in this challenge to help make a positive difference in their community, reduce bullying, and learn the importance of treating one another with respect. Students will record their acts of kindness on a poster in the hallway outside of our classroom. Homework:
*Students should read at least 20 minutes per day. Part of their reading should include a biography book to be completed before February 25th. We will work on the book report project in class.
ELA:
This week our class will discuss the idea of taking a second look at things we think we already know. We will talk about how this process can lead to new discoveries and conclusions.
⇒ Wonders Unit 4 Week 2
Our quarterly book report will be based on a biography. Students should choose a biography to read and complete before the end of February. They will not need to complete the chapter summary document, just read the book. We will work on the project for the book in class. There is not a required number of pages. If you have any questions, feel free to contact me. Thank you! Each year in the Q1 library, we like to encourage students to share their family’s heritage during our Global Literacy week. In years past, we’ve done a Diversity Quilt, which showed family traditions & flags representing the family’s origins. We’ve also done a “Peace” wall to show the different languages in which our diverse population of students would say the word Peace. This year I would like to display on a map where our students come from. Show them a visual of our “Global Community” here at Quest. By doing this we would like to know what State or Country your student was born, or if your student would prefer, where their family originates from. We will then put their name on a “sticky” arrow & place them on the map. I think this will be a fun way to show how diverse our student population is here in West Haven, Utah.
For responding, your student’s name will also be entered into a drawing to win a small prize here in the library. There will be one winner per class.
It really is fun to see where we all originate from & have the students start thinking a little more Globally. Also possibly finding a kinship with students from the same areas of the world.
