Announcements for Next Week

  • There will be no official math homework or Words Their Way spelling sorts next week due to Fall Break.
  • Students need to read everyday for 20 minutes and study their multiplication facts. This can be done on xtramath.org (my email is nyoung@questac.org, their login is their pin and their first name). or on multiplication.com (click on the games tab, there is no need to make an account).
  • I need every student to bring an clean, old white t-shirt to school on Monday or Tuesday of next week for an art project. This shirt will irreparably damaged 🙂 don’t bring anything you want back!

Homework for the Week of September 1, 2014

***Just a few updates***
-If you report the sorts and the reading log on the blog you do not have to turn in the sorts or the reading log into me. I trust you!
-If you report sorts or the reading log on the blog you only need to do it one time. Preferably sometime on Thursday or Friday.
-Feel free to use normal paper (lined or unlined) for the sorts. The attachments are mostly for instructions.
-From now on I will post all attached documents in pdf form so that everyone can open them. I’m sorry about the test review last week in word document form!
-Please make sure every page of homework has your child’s name on it. Sometimes the papers get separated.

Homework Starts Next Week

I hope everyone has enjoyed the lack of homework these first couple of days! Homework will be starting on Monday the 25th. Each night, every student will be responsible for 20 minutes of reading, a math assignment, and a word sort on their specific sort group.

Last year, I had students bring in a reading log on Fridays and their completed sort each morning in hard copy form. This year, you have the option of reporting reading and sort work right on the blog under the homework tab. Each sort will be worth 5 points. The week’s reading log will also be worth 5 points. If you would rather do a hard copy you are welcome to turn those in instead.

Math will be directly tied to what was done in class that day. I will have pdf links of the math assignment and the key (for parents/guardians) on the homework blog post. Be sure to read the assignment because it won’t always be for every number on the page. Sometimes it will only be odds, evens, or a specific set. If you would rather not print out the assignment, students are welcome to write their work and answers on a piece of lined paper. It will only be accepted if it is neat and legible.

The weekly organizer will need to be printed each week and initialed by a parent/guardian every evening. This organizer will also have some instruction and occasional announcements.

Sorry this was so long!!! I just wanted to make sure we are all on the same page! 🙂

Thanks,
Ms. Young
