Week of December 13th

Happy Last Week of School Before Winter Break (but who’s counting? 🙂 ). Our class has a lot of things to wrap up before we leave for break. The big thing that we will finish up is our middle-of-year testing. All of this needs to be completed before we leave for break, so please make sure that your child is here every day. Please check out the rest of the post for more details on what is happening this week.

Important Dates:

  • Friday, Dec. 17th – Dress Down Day & Class Grinch Party (See below for details)
  • Dec. 20th – Jan. 2nd – Winter Break

GRINCH PARTY!! – Students have been working for the last couple of weeks earning their Grinch hearts for our Grinch Party. They have been doing an amazing job so far of showing kindness, responsibility, and respect. Our class party will be on Friday, the 17th, from 8:45ish to 10:30ish. If you have volunteered to help please be here by 8:20 that day to help set up and get your assignments of what you will be doing.. We will be having treats this day and I have added a few items that I do not have permission for from the beginning of the year permission form. Below is a list of items that we could possibly be having at our party. The ones with the asterisk next to them are the items that I do not have permission for. Please fill out the Grinch Permission form in the last post to give your child permission to enjoy these snacks with our class.

  • Popcorn
  • Kettle Corn
  • Plain M&Ms
  • Marshmallows

MATH – This week we will be finishing up lesson 15 which is multiplying to find the area. We will also be reviewing math standards that we have learned so far this year.

ELA – We will be working on a Readers Theatre this week and reviewing ELA standards that we have learned so far this year.

Week of December 7

Hello! We have a lot going on in the next two weeks. The big ones are Middle of Year Reading and Math testing that will start on Monday. I can’t give you a specific day because they test by grades and I don’t know how fast they can get through the other grades before they come to us. It is so important that your child is here next week as much as possible! I would like them to get plenty of practice and review before their testing! Some helpful tips to help your child prepare are to make sure they get good sleep the night before and eat a good breakfast so that they feel ready for the day. Also, please make sure that you are still reading 20 minutes OUT LOUD with your child every night. This is going to be the best practice! I am so excited for them to show how much they have grown!

Important Dates:

  • Sometime this week Middle of Year testing for Reading and Math will start.
  • Friday, Dec. 17th from 8:45-10:30 – 3rd Grade Grinch Party
  • Dec. 20th – Jan. 2nd – Winter Break

MATH – Please remember to continue practicing multiplication facts with your third grader at home. You can find a cheap set of flashcards at the dollar store, you can print off your own online, or use index cards to create your own. No matter which flashcards you use, it is so important that your child has practice.

We started lesson 15 last week and we will continue it this week. Below is the family letter from our math workbook. On the second page of the letter, there is an activity to help students understand area. You are not required to do the activity, it’s just a suggestion if you’d like your child to practice at home.

ELA – We will be working on Unit 2 Week 6 which is a review unit. We will also be taking the Unit 2 test this week.
