We are now beginning Unit 8 in Language Arts. Below are the sight words, oral vocabulary words, letters, and sounds we will be mastering during the next 3 weeks. In addition, we continue to read decodable books and passages. We are also learning to write sentences about the text we read.
As a class in math, we will be solving addition and subtraction word problems to 10 and making teen numbers (ten and some more ones). We are continuing to practice counting to 100 and to identify the numbers 1-100. Individually, the students are working to master their current selected math standard. Ask them about their Nearpod lessons and encourage them to try the challenge activity when they master the math standard.
In science and STEM, we will be comparing how animals are alike and different. And we will be exploring how animals change their environments
We are looking forward to our upcoming Treehouse Museum field trip on Friday, March 31, 8:30-12noon.
$5.00 donations are welcome to help with our field trip expenses, including the cost of bus transportation. Donations may be paid in the Q1 office. Any extra funds will be used for our Kindergarten field day in May.

We are now beginning Unit 7 in Language Arts. Here are the sight words, oral vocabulary words, letters, and sounds we will be mastering during the next 3 weeks. In addition, we continue to read decodable books and passages. We are also working on writing sentences. We ask ourselves…Does it have a capital? Does it have a space? Does it have punctuation in its place? Are the other letters lowercase?
In math, we will be finding the missing part of 10 and solving addition and subtraction word problems. Individually, the students are working to master their current selected math standard. Ask them about their Nearpod lessons and encourage them to try the challenge activity when they master the math standard.
And in science and STEM, we will be exploring animal shelters and how animals seek safety in order to survive.
Yearbooks on sale now! Early bird pricing until February 28- $20
1. Middle-of-the-year assessments will begin TOMORROW and continue all week!! Students will be taking middle-of-the-year assessments this week. A few things that will help the students during this week: a long, good night’s sleep, a nutritious breakfast, and an “I can do it” attitude– encourage them to do their best! We really appreciate your help with this! It makes a big difference to your student when they are well-rested and not hungry for testing. We want every student to have the best shot possible at performing well on all mid-year assessments
2. Term 2 grades and citizenship scores have been updated and are available in your child’s Aspire account you set up. You can view the overall subject grade under “Unofficial Report Card”. For detailed scores by individual standards go to “Complete Progress Report”.
4. Every year I throw myself a birthday party during the school day on my birthday, January 31st. I don’t know why I do it, it is exhausting. Actually, I do know why I do it, all my students have loved it, and it has become a tradition that has brought some fun into the classroom during the long month of January. I will be serving mini Dr. Pepper cupcakes and Dr. Pepper soda (both caffeine-free, of course) which will be used in our addition/subtraction and quantity discrimination math lessons. I will provide everything for this fun day.
5. We will be celebrating Valentine’s Day in class on February 14th. We will have a Valentine exchange for the students. It is very important that you just write who the Valentine is FROM on the Valentines your child is handing out, do not write classmates’ names in the “to” or “for” space (this will help the kids distribute their Valentines much faster). We have 23 kindergarteners in our class. You do not need to send in a box or a bag, the kids will be making bags as an art project to collect the Valentines from their classmates. We will be having a treat as well, you can sign up to donate an item for our party here. Please have all donated items to our classroom on Friday, February 10 so that we can get the treats ready, thank you!
Parent Teacher Conferences will be held on Wednesday, February 1 and Thursday, February 2. Please note: These will be early out days and there will be no school on Friday (February 3).
Your child has a special presentation to share with you. Please select the date and time that is most convenient for you and your child to attend together. There are enough appointments available if a child needs more time slots to accommodate parent/guardian situations. To schedule your appointment, click on here.
We are excited for your return tomorrow. We hope you had an enjoyable break. We know that the children are excited about the gifts they received, but we are requesting that all toys and gifts remain at home.
Please note that devices that can be used to make or receive calls are to be kept in backpacks and turned off during the day; this includes cell phones, watches, etc.
Please make sure you send your kindergartener to school with a warm coat everyday!
We will be jumping right back into normal school activities. We will be getting ready for middle of year testing, which will take place in a couple of weeks.
Dates to remember: Friday, January 13 – NO SCHOOL for students for the end of term. Monday, January 16 – NO SCHOOL MLK Day.

We are currently working on Unit 5 in Language Arts. Here are the power words, oral vocabulary words, letters, and sounds we will be mastering during this unit. We are continuing to work on handwriting and blending sounds to read words.
In math, we are counting to 100 by 10’s and 1’s. We will begin addition after the holiday break. We continue to work on our individual math pathways (on Nearpod). We enjoy celebrating as each child masters a standard. Hearing the class chimes ring and seeing the smiles of delight are some of my favorite moments.
Finally, in science we will begin our Seasons unit. We will discuss what to wear for different types of weather and explore the season cycles.
