We are starting our differentiating word study program, Words their Way, this week!!!! After assessing the children I have grouped them according to their needs.
Click on the shape of your child’s group.  On the inside of your child’s blue homework folder I have put the shape he or she is in for your convenience right next to the daily sort expectations. (please look at that so that you know what sort to do each day).  Also, make sure you are asking for your child to look at their homework folder each night.  Several children have been placing them back in their desks instead of taking them home each night.

Parent Teacher Conferences (SEP’s)

Dear Parents,

Changes to the Parent/Teacher conferences policy made here at Quest Academy will now be held differently than they have in the past.  Those we feel we most need to meet with at this time will receive an invitation to schedule an appointment for the upcoming September 25th conference. If you do not receive an invitation to make an appointment, but would still like to meet with us please feel free to let us know via email. If there are openings, we will do our best to accommodate your request.

Thank you for sharing your child with us. We truly have a great class and know that together we can help these children be successful.

Thank you,
Amy Nelson

Scholastic Book Orders

We are excited to utilize the Scholastic Book Ordering program in our classroom this year.  The Scholastic Book order website is www.scholastic.com/bookclubs . You can click on it and it will take you directly to the website. Ordering online is fast and easy, you just need to sign in and enter our class activation code, which is: N8TKQ. Ordering books for your children through this program gives our class points towards free books that your child will utilize in the classroom throughout the year. This month our ordering due date is September 26.  We cannot accept cash or check

Enterovirus Information

Dear Parents,

I just wanted you to be aware that the enterovirus is now affecting Utah. Please know that if a child has a cold and then complains about having a hard time breathing, they need to see a doctor. I will monitor the children closely here at school for any red flags. We will be talking about the necessity to wash hands vigorously for 20 seconds after bathroom use. I will have children call home if I am concerned about this virus.  Please visit the CDC and/or Enterovirus Fact Sheet for more information.

I plan to keep our classroom clean and sprayed to deter the virus from affecting us.  Because this virus is different than others, we will need a few more classroom donations.  If you can donate an item, please reply to this post so others can see what still needs to be donated.

Items:
*2 Hand sanitizers (alcohol greater than 80%), sold at stores such as Walgreen’s
*3 containers of rubbing alcohol (at least 60% alcohol)
*Empty spray bottle
*2 rolls of paper towels

Homework Sorts

Dear Parents, We have had new students added to class and therefore have to assess them for their levels. Due to this, the Words Their Way sorts lists will not be posted to my blog to complete the sorting homework until this Friday. This will allow time for the necessary assessments to all take place for leveling accurately. Thank you so very much for your patience and help with this. We have been working on their sorts together in class to familiarize them with what they will be sorting at home. Please have your children continue reading their 20 minutes at night. This can be done with books at home or by logging into Raz-Kids. Raz-Kids would be the reading I would encourage so that it they are reading to their accurate reading abilities. To log into Raz-Kids, you will type or copy this website address: http:/www.raz-kids.com/main/Login It should automatically pull up our class. If it doesn’t, my teacher username is anelson74. Type that in and hit “GO”. Then click on your child’s name. I will have each of their passwords for Raz-Kids in their Homework folders. There is also a math page each week on what we are covering for the kids to complete and return each Friday. It is imperative that your child is taking home their homework folder each night and returning it the following morning.

Help our class win! Box Top Collection Begins

Dear Parent, Teachers, and Students The Collection Committee has decided to continue giving out the “Free Dress down Day” certificates. The Grade that brings in the most Box Tops, Labels for Education, My Coke Rewards, and Tyson Chicken combined each term will win the “Free Dress Down Day” certificate. At the end of the school year the Grade that has brought in the most for the whole year will win a Pizza/Movie party. Parents and Teachers of the winning Grade will receive more information on the reward given. This is how the terms have been determined: First Term: Collect from August 14 thru September 19. Final collection for the first term on September 19. “Free Dress Down Day” certificate to be used from September 22nd to October 24th. Students can redeem their “Free Dress Down Day” certificates anytime during the winning grades school term. They must be redeemed before the end of the term. Each certificate will have an expiration date on them and also these certificates cannot be replaced if lost or stolen. Second Term: Collect from September 22 thru October 24. Final collection for second term on October 24. “Free Dress Down Day” certificate to be used from October 27 to January 16. Third Term: Collect from October 27 thru January 16. Final collection for third term on January 16. “Free Dress Down Day” certificate to be used from January 19 to March 20. Fourth Term: Collect from January 19 thru March 20. Final collection for fourth term on March 20. “Free Dress Down Day” certificated to be used from March 23 to May 28 Pizza Party: Collect form March 23 to April 24 FINAL COLLECTION April 24. Party date will be discussed with teachers of winning grade. As a reminder for those with more than one child attending Quest Academy “please put everything that you have collected into a Ziploc bag and write each of your children’s names and teacher on the front. Everything that is counted in the bag will be put towards each student evenly. Example: If we count 256 total in the bag, each child would get 256 for their grade. This should make it easier on parents so they don’t have to divide up everything among their children.” Thanks again for all your support The 2014-2015 Collections Committee.
