I hope you are all having a wonderful break, a very Merry Christmas and looking forward to a Happy New Year! I had so much fun opening all your wonderful gifts, cards and special treats. THANK YOU SO MUCH for your kind and thoughtful gifts, cards, words and treats. I LOVE THEM ALL!!!! I sure do miss all of you and can’t wait to hear all about your holiday adventures with your friends and family. Please be safe and have fun.  See you January 6, 2020.

Also, please keep up on your reading every day.  Middle of the year reading tests are difficult to make benchmark, these passages and activities below will be very helpful to practice with before your return to school.

Just a reminder about our reading preparation for middle of year testing.   You’ll see below links to print reading passages for your students to practice.  We begin testing the week we return from Winter Break.  Please have your student practice these passages and complete the activities over the Winter Break so they can be better prepared for their testing session.  It is very difficult without daily reading to achieve reaching the middle of the year required benchmark.

  • Students should read this passage three times each day Monday – Thursday.
  • This counts towards the recommended 20 minutes of reading each day.
  • This is suggested reading homework, but is not required.
  • Parents may sign the worksheet and return it to school on Fridays.  Students who completed and return their homework will be entered into a weekly drawing.

You will just print one page double sided for the week.  Lower level readers use the C Set, mid level readers user the E, High level readers print the F or G below:

Optional Review 12/16-12/20

Middle of the year reading timed testing:
We will be doing middle of the year reading testing the day after we return from Winter Break.  I highly encourage your child to read the passage pages and complete the comprehension activity daily if possible during the break so that they will be able to reach their benchmark goals during testing, timing your child for 1 minute and asking them to provide as much retell back to you about what the story is about. A packet will be sent home with each of the students and they will get to go to the prize box when they return their completed passages after the Winter Break. :o)

1- Optional Math Practice

  • The family letter below provides review in math that you can do with your student.  Please read the letter and invite your child to share what they know about the concept by doing the activity together.

Although we have optional review, we very seriously encourage you reading with your children, reading to your children, and reading as a family.  We have learned that the public library has a wonderful app to access amazing books online called Libby. You can access the app information at this link:  Libby Link   By using your public library account, your students can log in and choose from thousands of books online for free to read to you, you to read to them, your family to read together, etc.  Audio books followed along also are a great source to develop this love for reading with your child as they follow along in the book.
