Everyone Needs A Badge

Dear Parents and Students,
Our lunch staff is implementing a new program beginning tomorrow where every student will need to have a current badge with a special, unique barcode label on the back.
We have done an inventory of students that have and do not have their badges. If your student’s name is listed under “No Badge”, you will need to purchase a replacement badge for $5 with the office first thing Monday morning and have a new badge printed so that we can attach the new barcode label before lunch.
Thank you in advance for taking care of this promptly Monday morning.
We appreciate your assistance,
Mrs. Nelson & Mrs. Hill

Safe Search Websites for research

We are learning about authors and illustrators in class.  Through partnership with Student Treasurers, each of your students has written their rough draft for our soon to be published class book.  Our book is titled “If I were an animal”.  Each student has selected what animal (fictional as well as non-fictional) they would like to be for a day and their adventures.  Please help your child research their animal to brain storm fun ideas for their writing page in our book and illustrating their page.  Final drafts go to the publisher on March 15th.

Homework 2/13-2/17

Homework this week is due on Friday, February 17:

1- Math Homework:  Please check your child’s answers for accuracy!
  • Worksheets: Please complete every other problem (alternate between evens and odds so your child gets practice doing story problems AND “Vocabulary Check”/ “Test Practice” problems each week).  If your child wants to do every problem they are certainly free to do so! 🙂

  • Practice your fluency timing repeatedly: “Near Doubles”.  Record your best time and score each day. [By the end of first grade, the target goal is to finish all 25 problems in 1 minute and 15 seconds, with 90% accuracy (23 out of 25 problems correct).]  Click here for extra timings: Fluency Timings

  • For extra practice, utilize any of these math-fact-activities. There is also a copy provided in your blue folder.

Helpful Hints:  This strategy is a natural progression from the doubles. It includes using a known fact and building on it. For example, in the equation 5+6, a student could think, “I know that 5+5 makes 10, and one more makes 11.” This strategy will likely require a bit more teaching than the previous two, but it will be well worth it; when students know their doubles and doubles plus one facts, they know 25% of the addition table!!
