Parent Survey and Grade Update

Thank you to all those parent’s who have already gone on and taken the parent survey to tell me how things are going for your child!! I have already read over the ones received and have received a lot of great feedback. If you haven’t gone in and taken it please do so, so that I can make more changes as needed.

As an educator this is one of my favorite parts, as well as the most important, to see how your doing and make changes as needed!

  • A big concern I saw was about grades and being able to make up missing work or assignments that got a low score. Since I am still getting used to everything for Quarter 1 here is what I am wanting to do, and what I will make changes on for Quarter 2.

Here is the math assignments:
Chapter 1

On My Own Lesson 1
On My Own L 2
On My Own L3
On My Own L 4

Check_My_Progress Lessons 1-4

On My Own Lesson 5
On My Own Lesson 6
On My Own Lesson 7
On My Own Lesson 8
On My Own Lesson 9

Check my Progess Lessons 5-9

On My Own Lesson 10
On My Own Lesson 11
On My Own Lesson 12
On My Own Lesson 13

You may print it off and have your child complete it if it is misisng, or do odd problems if they missed a lot and turn it in for points.

Starting this week I will staple their work for the week and have them turn it in each day and look it over and allow them to make changes to missed problems during small groups to get more points. This way hopefully assignments won’t get lost and they can continue to work on problems they are having trouble with and fix it.

Next quarter if your child misses a day when we do an assignment like it says in my disclosure I will allow them to turn it in up to one week from the day they return to school. I will try to write the date due on the top of their missing work.

THANK YOU ALL!
Hopefully this makes sense, please let me know if you have questions. I appreciate all of your feedback and support.

Science and Math Rock!

rocksKids love rocks!  And I love that we study about the uses of rocks and soil in 1st grade!  I’ve asked the students to find and bring in two rocks by Monday, October 5.  The first rock can be interesting and unique because it will be used to sort by observable properties (size, color, texture etc.) and to practice counting by 10′s by making groups of ten rocks.  The second rock will be used in an art project to make pet rocks, so it should be somewhat smooth and big enough to glue and paint on, but not so big that it’s too heavy in a backpack (no bigger than the size of a slice of bread).  They will probably get attached to their rocks, so please write your name on both rocks.  🙂  Thank you!

Picture Retakes

                                         It’s time for PICTURE RETAKES!!
camera-day-clip-art-1288018
If your child was absent on picture day, or you were not pleased with how their picture turned out we will be having picture retakes on October 5th. This will be our FINAL picture day so don’t forget. If you would like your child to have their picture taken or retaken on this day please have your child ask me for a picture retake paper to send home with them.

Math Homework

I sent home 3 math pages to be completed on Wednesday and Thursday of next week. The rest of the days please have your child get on Xtra math their pins are under homework and usernames and passwords. This will help them to practice their math addition facts.

Also I had some parents talk to me about IXL. I apologize for the confusion I do not have access to this program, it is quite an expense. However, I will be using front row. I will have this up and running soon for your child to practice problems at home.

Thanks! Have a great weekend!

Info About the Tower of Books Challenge

Dear Parents,

Welcome to the Tower of Books Challenge, an independent reading challenge for your child! Here’s how it works:

The goal for your student is to read all of the books from the categories listed on the paper sent home, with the option of “stacking up” to other lists that will be available.  Each student will check off one of the boxes each time a book is read.  After checking off 5 boxes, it’s time for him/her to add on to… The Tower of Books, which will be displayedTower of Booksoutside the library for all to see.  When a student is ready to add to the Tower, he/she must complete the following steps:

  1. Bring in his/her list, signed by a parent, to the library

  2. Get a book template

  3. Fill in the information for one of the books read

  4. Fold the template & glue it into its 3-D shape

  5. Receive a prize (Prizes will only be given when the book has been filled out, folded, & brought back to the library.)

Each class will be competing against the other classes in their grade to see which class will be the “master stackers”.  At the end of the year, the classes with the highest stacks will be awarded certificates & a small prize.

Your children will hopefully get a “taste” of some different genres of books they may not have read before, all while having fun keeping track of their reading & watching the stacks grow.

Thank you for your support with this!
