Mrs. Tucker’s Classroom Disclosure

August 2013 Dear Parents and Guardian, Welcome back to school!! Let the adventures begin! Citizenship/Discipline:  Students are expected to maintain good behavior throughout the day. If there are problems, students will be given opportunities to make corrections. Only when an issue becomes habitual or disruptive will parents be contacted. Homework:  Please have a special, regular, quiet place in your home set aside for homework to be done.  Homework may include spelling, math, projects, and other items at teacher discretion. Quest homework policy includes 20 minutes of reading at home, plus 10 minutes per grade level for other assigned work per day.  So, Fifth Graders can expect 20 minutes of reading and 50 minutes of other assigned work per day. Late Work:  Late school work/assignments and homework will not be accepted. Ample time is given for assignments to be completed. Please plan accordingly. Planners: In order to help students get their homework assignments done, students will be given a Planner to be filled out every day.  All assignments are written on the blog daily.  Please be sure to initial your student’s planner each night so that I know that the student completed all assigned tasks. Each day a planner is at school and signed will be equal to 1 point. Attendance/Absences:  Please contact me when you know your child is going to be away from school. You and your child are responsible for getting missed assignments. Students will have the number of days they missed, plus one additional day to complete an assignment. For example, if they are gone for 3 days, they have 3 days plus one more, for a total of 4 days to turn in work, after their return to the classroom.  Also, check out our Quest website’s new feature for excusing absences online. In cases of tardiness, students must check into the office before coming to class! Supplies: Since we have lockers this year, supplies will be stored there and a pencil box is all that will be needed in the classroom. Locks for the lockers are provided. If the lock is lost or broken, then the student will need to replace it. Students should have all needed supplies each day: sharpened pencil, notebook, headphones, thumb drive, and a reading book. Brainiacs: A Brainiac is a mini research project. There will be one assigned each month. The topic is chosen by the student on a question they may have. Each month a written report of increasing words and a visual will be due. Visuals may be assigned, such as a PowerPoint, iMovie, or other electronic media; or left up to the student and can be a poster, representation of their topic, pictures, etc. Science Project of the Week (SPOW): Periodically students will receive a SPOW to complete. They will have a week or so to complete it. This gets them in the science frame of thinking and prepares them for the Science Fair towards the end of the year Book Reports: Each month a book report will be assigned, covering many of the main genres. A project will be assigned for each one. Students have a sign-off sheet to have books approved. Optional: Students may bring a water bottle with a tight fitting cap/lid. Students should take them home daily for cleaning. Contact and Availability:  If you have any questions or concerns throughout the year, the best way to contact me is through email.  My email is stucker@questac.org.  I also update my blog everyday, and you can get information as well as assignments from there.  The address is http://qacblogs.org/sara.tucker/ . I will be available to help students needing extra academic help on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 3:15-3:45.
