Oh, the Places You'll Go!

Our goal for December’s STEM activity was to create a train out of cookies and crackers.  The train had to hold together for at least one minute.  Enjoy watching our project!

Here are some of our first and second term sight word songs.  You can use these songs to help your child learn their sight words for this term and last term. Enjoy!

Each classroom at Quest will be putting together a holiday basket to raise money for field trips, clubs, and other activities at Quest. 

The baskets will be put on display in the Q1 foyer from December 5th-15th.  At that point, you may vote for your favorite basket and you may purchase tickets to win a basket.

We are asking students and families to donate any items for our class basket which will be centered around the theme “Super Heroes” (ie: toys, blankets, clothes, books, treats, etc.).  Donations for the basket will need to be submitted to our classroom by November 29th.

We have a great opportunity to help with this fantastic activity/fundraiser that has been planned to help Quest with our clubs and extracurricular activities. Don’t think of it as a fundraiser though, because it’s going to be more like a fair at an incredible price.
The Fun Run is only $10 per student. They receive a shirt, antlers, red nose and hot chocolate and donuts all for $10 – that is so cheap!  Plus you can watch the movie and do the bounce houses for free.  Santa Claus is coming for pictures with kids. It’s December 3rd but the registration is due by Nov. 18th to get the good price.  Please send in your registration form asap. We could actually win another pizza party if we get the most registrations. Please join us on Dec. 3.

*Every student that signs up to run in 5K walk/run or Fun Run will be entered in a drawing for a Kindle Fire (one winner for Elementary and one winner for Jr. High) 

*The grade that has the most students sign up to participate will receive a Pizza Party from POQA. K-5, and 6-9th will each have one party.

Scholastic book orders are due this Thursday, October 13th.  I have several spend $10 and get $5 off coupons for Scholastic books.  If you would like one of these coupons just drop by our classroom and pick one up or let me know and I will send it home with your child.  

Our field trip was a huge success!! Thanks so much to the parents who came and helped make things go smoothly! 

* This Friday will be our field trip to the fire station. Be sure to have your child at school on time. We will be leaving shortly after class starts. Also, this Friday is dollar dress down day; if your child brings a dollar they do not have to wear their school uniform. 

* September’s reading calendar and all homework packets from September are due next Monday, Oct. 3rd.  Please make sure your child turns them in so they can receive a prize!

*Just a reminder that all field trip donations are needed by the end of this week! We will be deciding if we have enough money to go on our two planned field trips to the Treehouse Museum and to SeaQuest. We will have to cancel field trips if we do not receive enough donations. Thank you so much for you help!!

*We just took our first math test. I will be sending home your child’s math test this week. Please note that the first test was the test I gave before I taught them and the second test is the test I gave them after I taught them. This will help you to see how much they learned and what things they can use more practice with at home. 

*During the month of October, we will be learning where 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th positions are; greater than, less than and equals to; and writing numbers
0-10. Please review these concept at home so they will be ready for their test.  

I’ve decided to extend my due date for book orders this month. I’m only a few dollars short of doubling my points. This will allow me to buy a new couch for the tiki hut and several new STEM games. If you still want books but didn’t place your order, please do so before Friday at 3pm. Thank you so much for your support!!!

I sent home a hearing screening notice with your child today. Below is also a copy of that screening notice.   Please let me know a.s.a.p. if you don’t want your child screened.  Thanks.

As part of Child Find, the Utah State Office of Education requires that all students, grades kindergarten, through second, all special education students be screened for hearing loss.  Your student will be screened on Thursday September 22nd. If for any reason you do not want your child screened, please email your child’s teacher no later than Tuesday, September 20th.
