Week of February 22

I hope that everyone has a great long weekend. Check out below for what we are working on this week.

Important Dates:

  • Monday, Feb. 21st – President’s Day – No School
  • Tuesday, Feb. 22nd – 2/22/22 Day! We will be doing a variety of “2” related activities today. One of them will be putting on a temporary tattoo. If you do not want your child to participate in this activity, please email me ASAP! Thanks!

  • Feb. 28th – March 4th – Positive Me Week!

MATH – MULTIPLICATION! MULTIPLICATION! MULTIPLICATION!! – I hope that got your attention. Your child cannot learn multiplication facts without help from home. Please make sure that you are quizzing your child on these facts. You can buy cheap multiplication flashcards at many different stores, or you can create your own using index cards. Students in 3rd grade are required to have their 0-10 multiplication facts memorized before entering 4th grade. I have been quizzing students on their facts and they need to pass off 10 facts in a minute. Please take time every night to practice multiplication facts with your child.

This week we will be working on equivalent fractions. Below is the family letter and on the second page, there is an activity to help students with fractions. You are not required to do the activity, it’s just a suggestion if you’d like your child to practice at home.

ELA: This week we’re working on Unit 4 Week 2 in our Wonders book. Below is an outline of what we will be learning.

Week of February 14

HAPPY VALENTINE’S DAY! We will be having our Valentine’s exchange on Monday, the 14th. Students can bring valentines for everyone in our class (there are 24 students). Please DO NOT label the valentines in the “TO:” section. This takes forever to pass out the cards. This year students CAN include store-bought treats with their valentines, however, they cannot eat the treats until they get home. Your child is more than welcome to bring a valentine’s box to school on Monday if you choose. I will have a plain white paper sack for them if they do not bring one. This day is really low key so I will not need any parent volunteer help.

Super Bowl Inferencing Party – Right before our Valentine’s Party we will have a Super Bowl Inference Party. During this activity, we will be watching old Super Bowl commercials and use our inferencing skills to find out what the commercial is actually telling us. We also call this “reading between the lines”. We will be having food to go with the commercials that we watch and I do have permission from everyone. We will be eating Doritos, Twinkies, and Lemon-Lime Soda. If something has changed with your child and they CAN NOT have these items, please email me asap.

Important Dates:

  • Monday, Feb. 14th – Valentine’s Exchange
