Homework for Week of 9/14-9/18

Homework this week is due on Friday, September 18:
For this week, there are 6 components required for weekly homework:

2- Reading 20 minutes per day, record on reading log attached to our new Weekly Homework form.
There are several sources for reading: “Buddy books” which will be sent home on Friday, books from home or the public library and our online reading program Raz-Kids.  Our class Raz-Kids login is:

3- (**NEW**)Weekly Word Sort and High Frequency Word homework.  Here is the link for our weekly homework form: Weekly-Homework-Organizer-Form

This form can also be found under the heading “HOMEWORK” and the drop down tab “Weekly Homework Organizer Form Link”.  Detailed homework instructions are also located here.   We have been practicing the word sort activities in class and the kids are doing great!  Let me know if you have questions.

There will be a word sort test and a “spelling” test (high frequency words) every Friday morning.

A few notes about sorts:
1- Focus on the pattern or the type of sort.  (Listed above in
parenthesis)
2- Right now as we begin, you may choose to have your student write a few words for each header instead of the all the words.  As they become more familiar with sorting and writing you will increase your expectations about how many words they are to write.  (For Monday and Wednesday sorting)
3- Remember to record their sort times for Tuesday’s speed sort.  Times are necessary to receive credit for that day.

Animal Reports: We are working on research reporting and finding facts on animals.  Your student needs to fill out the report page and then draw a picture of their animal. This is due on Friday. They will be presenting their reports next week to the class.  Feel free to use any source to get your information, including: internet, encyclopedia, other books, etc. Here is a list of their animals they are reporting on:
