If you are able to read the entire passage in less than a minute: start again at the top of the passage and read as many more words as you can until the one-minute timing is over.  For scoring, include the total words read during the entire minute. For instance, if you read the entire passage (137 words) and then read part of it again (39 words) before the one-minute timing was over, your score would be 176 (if you had no mistakes).

NEW Pizza Count for Friday, March 31st

Below is a link to a new form for the pizza lunch count for this week.  PLEASE ONLY FILL OUT THE FORM FOR THE CURRENT WEEK – PLEASE DO NOT SIGN THE FORM MULTIPLE TIMES FOR FUTURE WEEKS.

We have had great difficulty obtaining an accurate lunch count for the pizza that has been served on Fridays.  As such, we will now be adding a link to an online form as part of our weekly homework post (the link will be at the bottom of each week’s homework post), so that I can obtain information directly from parents.

Each week that you would like your child to receive pizza that Friday, please fill out the form BY 8:30 A.M. THE DAY BEFORE (THURSDAY) the pizza will be served. It is your responsibility to be certain that you have sufficient funds in your child’s lunch account (lunch is $2 per meal). I will be taking the pizza count directly from the form, and the lunch staff will not have extra pizza on hand, so if you’d like your child to receive pizza, please fill out the form on time. A lunch count for the alternative entree option will be taken in class. Once again, PLEASE ONLY FILL OUT THE FORM FOR THE CURRENT WEEK – PLEASE DO NOT SIGN THE FORM MULTIPLE TIMES FOR FUTURE WEEKS.

For this week, to add your child to the lunch count for pizza, click on the link below. The form must be completed by 8:30 AM the day BEFORE (Thursday) the pizza is served.  A lunch count for Friday’s alternative school lunch option will be taken in class.

THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR YOUR HELP WITH THIS, PARENTS! 🙂

Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday: Please time your child reading for one minute each day. Ask your child to “re-tell” the story back to you, trying to include as many details as possible (see guidelines below).  Write each day’s score at the bottom of the Homework Form.  Near the top of each page, it reads, “After reading, find the ____ and color them _____.”  This is an exercise we do in class: I give the students a part of speech (such as noun, verb, adjective, etc.) and they spot the parts of speech in the passage and color them; you may choose to do this or not. **There is no need to print out the passages unless you would like to; printouts do not need to be turned in for homework credit.

          GUIDELINES FOR RE-TELLING FLUENCY PASSAGES
Re-tell the story with as much detail as possible, and in your own words, to a parent, using the guidelines described below:

If you are able to read the entire passage in less than a minute: start again at the top of the passage and read as many more words as you can until the one-minute timing is over.  For scoring, include the total words read during the entire minute. For instance, if you read the entire passage (137 words) and then read part of it again (39 words) before

Homework Error and No School Friday

Just a reminder that, due to teacher professional development, there is no school on Friday, March 17th.  Enjoy a wonderful long weekend!

Also, I regret that I made an error when posting the homework assignment for this week, which should have been a “reading homework only” week.  The math and spelling homework portions that were posted this week will be re-posted for next week’s homework, so feel free to turn in the math and spelling homework either tomorrow or next Friday – equal credit will be given for meeting either deadline.

Students will not have a spelling test on Thursday, March 16th.

I apologize for any confusion and I appreciate your understanding.  Thank you!
