Valentine’s Day is coming up

Valentine Food Permission Slip

We will be celebrating Valentine’s Day on Wednesday, February 14th. Valentine’s Day is a great day for the kids to express their appreciation and love for their friends in our class. Of course we DO NOT allow food items with our Valentine cards, but the cards are great. If you choose, you may attach toy type items, but it is not necessary. You would be surprised how much they love reading the cards from their friends and checking out the different theme cards. I hope each child will write their own cards to practice writing their names, and if they choose to, the names of their classmates. I allow this for this class because they really are getting really good at writing. I will provide time during centers to deliver the Valentines to their friends. It’s a good idea to get a jump on it to allow enough time that it won’t be overwhelming all at once.
Each child can create their own Valentine mail box or bag at home to bring on the day of the party. I don’t have space to store them before hand. There are no rules except that it has to fit on their table in their own space. I will provide a bag for anyone who does not bring their own.

I have attached a list of the kids in our class.

And so it begins…..

I can’t wait to see you all tomorrow for our first day of Kindergarten. This is going to be a great year. There will be many things to learn about how our classroom works. We will spend the next few days getting to know each other and learning what it means to act like a Kindergartener; but we will do it in a fun way.

Parents, remember to dress your child in the appropriate uniforms. Fridays are spirit day. Students can wear Quest Academy t-shirts with uniform bottoms and shoes. Also, dress for the weather. In the mornings it will start to get cool, but hot by the time we go to recess. Any sweater or jacket can be worn outside, but if they want to leave it on, it must be uniform appropriate.

PLEASE SEND A WATER BOTTLE WITH YOUR CHILD BEGINNING NOW! It takes so much class time to stand in line at the drinking fountain.  Water is sooo important for the brain. We have access to a sink, so they can fill their water bottles in the classroom.  Please LABEL IT. They will need to bring them home daily so we can keep things clean and germ free. It is fine to use store-bought water bottles too if that is more convenient.  Just label it.

I am working out the details for the solar eclipse.  I will send a post shortly with information.

Remember you can walk your child into the classroom on the first day, and then enjoy breakfast with the other BooHoo parents in the Quest library. 🙂
I feel really confident that your children will do great on their own.  See you all tomorrow!

Thank You!

Thank you so much for your attendance and endurance last night at our Back To School presentation. It was so great to meet all of you and get to see the kids. I’m so thrilled to begin this year.  I noticed so many volunteer slots are filling up. I am truly grateful to you. I know many of you want to volunteer but your current work or family situation won’t allow it right now. Thanks for being willing to do anything you can. Parents make all the difference.

As promised, here is the link to the presentation from BTS.

Yearbook Slideshow

Thanks for a great year Everyone! I hope you enjoy watching our learning memories.
Last night was a great success! I’m so proud of all your kids. They did a great job under pressure.
A special thanks goes to my right arm and dear friend, April Barrett. She is more than our assistant, she is a co-teacher. I hope you know how rare and lucky it is to have two teachers in a Kindergarten classroom. I want her to know how much we all appreciate her.

Enjoy!

Raz Kids

Dear Parents,
All students are now tested on leveled reading and updated on Raz-Kids. The testing system, Fountas and Pinnell, is rated slightly higher than the Raz leveling system but they should be pretty close. Let me know if you see something that looks extremely difficult or easy for your child. Remember you can go down to any level you wish to catch up on some of the books skipped. Some kids jumped 2 full reading levels.  Don’t panic if your child didn’t. But I would encourage them to spend more time on Raz kids. Even in place of the leveled baggie books. I love the comprehension questions and the options. We will now work to match the baggie book levels to the tested levels.  Your child can automatically move to the next level on Raz kids once they read all the books on the level and answer all the questions. I will also do more frequent testing. This leveling system allows me to group the kids who are about the same level and plan my small group instruction according to their experience and ability. I am so pleased with the progress I see in your children. They are amazing. I can really tell that they are getting some great coaching at home. Thanks for your help with the progress. Your hard work is paying off.
