We will do yearbooks and goodbyes that day instead of Friday. Mrs. Barrett will take over for Friday the 25th and the students will be attending the talent show assembly.

END OF YEAR TESTING

End of Year Testing/ No Kindergarten Apr. 30- May 3

testingImportant:  April 30th (Mon.) through May 3rd (Thurs.), we will not be having regularly scheduled class.  Instead, we will be doing end of year testing. This is extremely important, as it will place your child in the correct class for first grade.  I need ALL students to show up to be tested.  I have created a sign up account in Sign Up Genius.  As soon as possible, please schedule a time that works best for you to bring your student into our classroom for testing.

QU Wedding

It is an exciting time in our classroom!  The wedding of Q and U is scheduled to take place on February 23rd. This is a very fun day in our class that is planned to help the children remember the sound of Q, and to reinforce that q and u are always written together.

We are planning a dress-up day for the children on this day.  The children are welcome to come dressed as queens and kings or in their best dress.  There is no need to go out and buy anything new for this occasion. Sunday clothing, a king or queen costume, or fancy dress clothes are appropriate. Or you don’t have to dress up at all.  We will gather in the gym and have an official ceremony (script and all). Then we do dancing to celebrate and open gifts.

We are asking the children to bring a gift for the new couple (Q and U).  Please find any item or picture that has the “qu” sound (ie: quarter, equator, quilt, etc.) in the word and put it in a gift bag or wrap it.  We will be opening it at school and then sending them back home after the activity. We can’t wait for the celebration.

Valentine’s Day is coming up

Valentine Food Permission Slip

We will be celebrating Valentine’s Day on Wednesday, February 14th. Valentine’s Day is a great day for the kids to express their appreciation and love for their friends in our class. Of course we DO NOT allow food items with our Valentine cards, but the cards are great. If you choose, you may attach toy type items, but it is not necessary. You would be surprised how much they love reading the cards from their friends and checking out the different theme cards. I hope each child will write their own cards to practice writing their names, and if they choose to, the names of their classmates. I allow this for this class because they really are getting really good at writing. I will provide time during centers to deliver the Valentines to their friends. It’s a good idea to get a jump on it to allow enough time that it won’t be overwhelming all at once.
Each child can create their own Valentine mail box or bag at home to bring on the day of the party. I don’t have space to store them before hand. There are no rules except that it has to fit on their table in their own space. I will provide a bag for anyone who does not bring their own.

I have attached a list of the kids in our class.

100 Days of Kindergarten Celebration

We have been counting our days and can’t wait to celebrate! Our 100th day of school is coming up Friday, February 2nd. We are excited to spend our Kindergarten day using math activities and games to practice ways of counting to 100. Please choose something from home that your child can use to count to 100. They will bring the items back home. It needs to be 100 of the same item and it needs to be small enough to fit inside a sandwich size baggie. Please write your child’s name on the baggie. Have your child count the items they will bring to school. Some ideas for items to send are pennies, popsicle sticks, buttons, pebbles, crayons, toothpicks, washers, puzzle pieces, cotton balls, mini legos, marbles, eraser toppers, craft pom poms, wiggly eyes and stickers. Feel free to be creative in what you send, (BUT ABSOLUTELY NO FOOD). The activity, along with the other things we have planned, will be very fun and educational.

Dollar Dress Down on Friday, September 8

Just a quick reminder about tomorrow’s dress down. And also complete and turn in the BLUE HOMEWORK REPORTING SHEET. Make sure to use the side that has a place for the name. 🙂

Quest families,

Our hearts go out to all those in Texas who have been affected by Hurricane Harvey. In an effort to provide some relief, this Friday will be a dollar dress down day. All donations will go to victims of the Hurricane.
Thank you!

Student Network ID Cards

On Thursday I will send home the blue HOMEWORK REPORTING SHEET. Attached to this sheet is a YELLOW CARD. This is the log in information to access and use the school computer labs. This is private to each student. This card is to be kept at home so they can practice, and eventually memorize the log-in information. The log-in is the firstname.lastname of your child, no spaces. This network password is unique and cannot be posted. They will have a cheat sheet to use at school that matches this one. So keep yours at home. The students will get to choose from the treasure box once they have successfully logged in without my help. This might take some time. We only go to the lab on Fridays so the practice needs to happen at home. The period (dot) is a vital part of the login, so make sure they get that.
Since they will not actually be logging in at home, they can just practice typing it on a word document or simply tell you the sequence of letters and numbers. Both ways are good practice.

I know there are lots of log-ins so I have posted a reminder under the parent tab for Raz-Kids and IXL. Please go read the IXL page now so I won’t need to send another post for that. I will give you the standards to practice with next week’s homework post.

PLEASE SUBMIT THE BLUE HOMEWORK PAGE ON FRIDAY WITH READING MINUTES! REMEMBER, NO NEED TO SEND THE HOMEWORK BACK, BUT LET ME KNOW WHAT YOUR CHILD COMPLETED OR WORKED ON.
