Student Network ID Cards

On Thursday I will send home the blue HOMEWORK REPORTING SHEET. Attached to this sheet is a YELLOW CARD. This is the log in information to access and use the school computer labs. This is private to each student. This card is to be kept at home so they can practice, and eventually memorize the log-in information. The log-in is the firstname.lastname of your child, no spaces. This network password is unique and cannot be posted. They will have a cheat sheet to use at school that matches this one. So keep yours at home. The students will get to choose from the treasure box once they have successfully logged in without my help. This might take some time. We only go to the lab on Fridays so the practice needs to happen at home. The period (dot) is a vital part of the login, so make sure they get that.
Since they will not actually be logging in at home, they can just practice typing it on a word document or simply tell you the sequence of letters and numbers. Both ways are good practice.

I know there are lots of log-ins so I have posted a reminder under the parent tab for Raz-Kids and IXL. Please go read the IXL page now so I won’t need to send another post for that. I will give you the standards to practice with next week’s homework post.

PLEASE SUBMIT THE BLUE HOMEWORK PAGE ON FRIDAY WITH READING MINUTES! REMEMBER, NO NEED TO SEND THE HOMEWORK BACK, BUT LET ME KNOW WHAT YOUR CHILD COMPLETED OR WORKED ON.

Raz-Kids

Your child may have come home very excited to begin Raz-kids. This is an online reading tool to help them improve their reading skills. Here’s what you need to do.  Go to www.raz-kids.com or you can use the student links on the Quest web page.  My class password is wcowan0 (that’s a zero). Make sure you click the green button that says KIDS LOGIN, next to the robot. Your child will type their username as their first and last name with no spaces or symbols. (like this: janedoe) I don’t think it is case sensitive, but let me know if you have issues.  I assigned each one of them their own icon for a password. If they forgot just email me. That’s easier than sending out each one individually. They should all be starting on Level A (not aa), for now. They can listen to the book, then read the book, then answer the comprehension questions. There is also an app for tablets and phones. They can choose from any and all the books on level A. I will be testing them soon to see where to move them on levels. But for now, let’s just practice getting use to it and having some fun. Try not to read all the books too quickly.  It will take me some time to get them all tested. Let me know if I missed anything. Let the reading begin!!!!

Homework and Reading Minutes

Hey Everyone!
It was so great to see every one of you at conferences this week. Thanks so much for taking time to come and meet with me. You have FANTASTIC children.  I love each one of them.

Remember the homework is due tomorrow, but since I distributed it so late, don’t feel like you have to complete all of it.  Do what you can and turn it in tomorrow even if it isn’t complete.  Will you please write me a little note on the front page. Did your child love it, like it or hate it?  You can just use those simple words to give me some feed back or more detailed feedback if you wish.

Please check your child’s homework grade on Aspire.  I have logged in all Google reported minutes as of 2:30pm on Thursday.  IT IS ESSENTIAL THAT YOU DATE THE MINUTES THE FRIDAY OF THAT WEEK’S HOMEWORK. For example, please date the minutes for this week February 24th. Even if you enter the minutes on Sunday the 26th. This way, I can always tell which week your are reporting. Please report it by Monday if you can. If you show your child is missing minutes, please email me the minutes of the weeks missing because I have logged everything in now on Google. Start fresh tomorrow with this week’s minutes. We are really giving the upper grades a run at it.  Kindergarten ROCKS! So please log it in.

In addition, I have created a calendar for you to log the minutes if you choose to use it. Click the link below. But you do not need to turn it in. Please set a reminder to log in your minutes weekly.  We are slacking a little as of last week. I wish I had time to email anyone that is missing minutes, but we will have to rely on Aspire.  So please check it.
March Reading Log

Thanks for all you do to help me help your child succeed! I am so LUCKY!

Reading Minutes Link

Good News! I now have access to the reporting information for the Library reading minutes. I think this will simplify the reporting system for you. Please go to this link: Weekly Reading Log Link each Friday and submit the reading minutes for your child. Mrs. Anderson, in our library, is holding a contest and gives each student a airplane to display on the wall for meeting the 20 minutes each night.  I know you are all doing this, and then some, so lets get the credit for it. I will retrieve the minutes on my end and begin entering the scores weekly instead of monthly for their grade. You can still print the calendar and use it if it helps you track it and reward your child, but it will not be required to turn in. In addition, I’m going to begin giving the kids a trip to the treasure box each month for reading the required monthly minutes or earning 4 airplanes in the library contest. I’m really excited to see how many airplanes go up! Feel free to teach your child how to click the link and enter their name and minutes to give them ownership. Happy Reading! Click below and begin on Friday (tomorrow).

In the future this link can also be found under HOMEWORK-then READING LOGS on my blog.

Library Reading Challenge

Library Reading Challenge

unknown

“WHERE IN THE WORLD WILL READING TAKE YOU?”

This year for the library’s reading challenge, we will submit reading minutes to travel across the continents. Whichever class, per grade, gets the most reading minutes submitted will win the fabulous prize.

I know it’s a bit inconvenient for you to log it 2 places, but don’t worry about writing titles on my monthly log.  Just jot down your minutes for me. The library minutes can be logged weekly. Thanks for making that extra effort for us!

Please click on this link to record your weekly reading minutes to help our class win the prize: Kindergarten Reading Log      (recently updated)

Homework for Oct 31-Nov 4

Homework is posted on the Homework Page.
Finally a normal week, except for our party on Monday. But at least we get a whole week together. Congratulations! The kids did a great job on the sight word test. I will send home results on Monday.  The hardest word in the list is always “a”. They spell it “u” sometimes. Work on that one. New words this month are posted. Way to go with IXL this week.  Our class has done over 2000 math problems. I’m so happy the kids are excited about it. Keep it up. We are beginning Chapter 4 in math this week. We will come back to Chapter 3 later on. We are making and taking apart numbers. It’s different than add and subtract because they give you a number and you choose a way to take it apart or make that number. IXL will be add and subtract practice though.
I talked to most of you about the reading and writing homework.  If I didn’t and your are confused, let me know. You can switch up the writing and do it on white boards, rice, sand, shaving cream etc. I still want paper pencil work sometimes, but you can switch it up so it’s fun and less monotonous. Just write me a note on the homework and tell me what you practiced. Have FUN!

Homework for this week

Homework is posted for this week. I just forgot to tell you since I was conferencing with each of you.  It will be due on Thursday due to the Halloween Parade.  Don’t stress about it, just do what you can. I would like everyone to sign onto IXL now and give it a try. Wait until after class on Wednesday to do Raz Kids. I want a chance to teach it in class and then begin.
If all you get done this week is Raz Kids and IXL, that is great, but at least try to read the words from the homework.
