Homework: My goal is to create a love and desire for learning, especially reading. Research indicates that the best way to help your child become a successful learner is to READ at home. Each child will be required to read 20 minutes each day. This includes a parent or family member reading to your child, as well as listening to your child read the baggie books (which are assigned on their reading level), and any other book choices. Reading time will be the only required homework points for their grade.
Homework is a wonderful way to help students review, practice and prepare for the lessons learned at school. I am an advocate for homework. I feel it’s important for a parent to observe and coach your child as they review and practice.
Quest policy indicates that your Kindergarten child should not be required to spend more than 10 minutes on daily practice homework. That being said, I trust you as parents to know what is appropriate for your child’s practice homework. You can also judge the depth and time spent on homework. I will provide homework choices for you each week for your child’s practice. You are welcome to do all or part of the work I provide. Please note that this is not an assignment, but it is a resource and it might vary from week to week. The homework pages will not be turned in to the teacher. However, it is important that students learn accountability. Therefore, I will provide a HOMEWORK REPORTING SHEET to be turned in every Friday, which will include reading minutes. This will also provide a way for you to communicate with me about any difficulties you observe, as well as teaching our students the responsibility of reporting on their work.
Beginning in September, there will be weekly homework practice posted to my blog under the homework section. I will not provide homework on holidays, short weeks and assessment weeks. Labor day is an exception since we need to get started.
